Thoughts On - Spec Ops: The Line

Image
Apart from   Hellblade , I can't think of any other mainstream title that's taken such a delicate subject and handled it so very well. Initially a wrote out a whole thing about why the game is so impactful and important to the discussion of gaming, but then I realised the following video explains it much better than I ever could (skip to 13:18). I highly recommend giving it a watch, just be advised there are story spoilers.

Green Collecting

Of late I've been listening to some really great podcasts about living more sustainably  and the fast fashion industry . Both were really eye opening (or is that ear openining?) and totally worth a listen. However, they also got me to thinking; what kind of impact does the collectables market have on Earth? I've been environmentally conscious my whole life. Growing up in regional Australia, I've seen first hand the absolute beauty of the natural world and the horrible destruction of it at the hands of humans. While I have always tried to do my best for the environment, it's all but impossible to not have some kind of impact. However, I'm beginning to wonder just how much of an impact my hobby has. When you think about it, the collectables market is pretty environmentally unfriendly. Take a single action figure, for example. You have all the materials that go onto making the figure; plastics, resin, paint, rubber, etc. You have the materials for the packaging; more p

Thoughts On - Marvel's Midnight Suns

Image
The best way I’ve seen Midnight Suns described is that it feels like an interactive comic book event story. Personally, I feel that is a perfect description. Let me explain; When Infinity War and Endgame were released, I had several people come up to me and comment on how crazy it was, and that they didn’t expect some of the events that happened in the film to happen (if you’ve seen them, you know). My reaction was always “it was great, but if you think that’s crazy, check out the books they’re based on!” While those films are undoubtedly amazing, the scope and scale pale in comparison to not only their namesake comic runs, but other comic book events such as Crisis on Infinite Earths, Secret Invasion and Infinity , to name but a few. It’s hard to explain just how large in scope some of these events are. Midnight Suns feels to me like a halfway point between the two. There are some amazing twists and turns throughout its story, and the game goes to some places that one doesn’t e

The Phantom is (Finally) Getting a Video Game in 2024!

Image
It was revealed recently by ChronicleChamber.com that The Phantom will be getting a new video game in 2024! The last Phantom game was released in 1995 and based on the Phantom 2040 animated series. To say that Phans have been wanting a new game for a while is an understatement! The game is being developed by Aussie team Art of Play and will be released on all major platforms. The ChronicleChamber team have conducted an interview with Art of Play director Ash Nicholls and it is well worth a listen. You can hear the passion Ash has for the character in every word he says, and his plans for the game sound wonderful. Check it out below. While I highly recommend listening to the entirety of the podcast, the main points of interest are as follows; The Art of Play team want this to be perfect.  Ash is clearly very passionate about the character. There will be a good deal of fan service, but of a more subtle kind than seen in other media. Gameplay will, at its most basic, be a side-s

So...A New Blog

Image
I've always had a constant confusion about if I should have a blog, and if I do where it should go. Because of this I've had several over the years, and they've lasted maybe a year before I think "no, it shouldn't be here, it should be elsewhere." This is exactly one of those instances.  When I created my on-line writer/ artist portfolio the idea was to have my blog there. But then it felt weird to have posts on there with random ramblings . So, I tried to have one blog stream for portfolio stuff, and another for general posts. But, try as I might I could just never get it to look right. Thus, I decided to separate the two completely and keep stuff on my portfolio only about the things I'm working on, and have another (this one) for everything else. So, here we are; a new blog. I'll try to keep this one going for longer than a year. 😅 What you can expect here are ramblings about things I enjoy; comics, video games, shows and books. I'll also cros
